TRICYCLES A TERRIFIC ADDITION

Community members with a disability and older children with balancing difficulties are reaping the benefits of five new tricycles at Whyalla Road Safety Centre.
Thanks to a Regional Safety Grant from RAA for $4446.87, the centre was able to fulfil a long-time wish to be able to provide the specialised bikes for community members.
Whyalla Road Safety Centre chairperson Bet Henderson said it was great to be able to offer this service to community members such as the Community Options program which utilised the centre.

A cheque valued at $4446 will be handed over to the centre on Tuesday as part of the RAA's Regional Safety Grants.

Whyalla Road Safety Centre is calling for more volunteers to keep it on track and moving towards a positive future.
The Road Safety Centre will hold its annual general meeting at the centre on Billing Street on Monday, March 23 at 7pm and the current committee is inviting new faces to join.

Bubblegum Markets will again support a local organisation with its quarterly markets this Sunday.
Whyalla Road Safety Centre has been chosen as the recipient of the markets this time around, with co organiser Kristin Davies and her team excited to support the group.

Despite the Whyalla Special School moving to a new purpose-built facility at Russell Street, the Whyalla Road Safety Centre is here to stay.
Providing an invaluable service to not only local but other regional South Australian children, Whyalla Road Safety Centre chairman Damien Trenwith said they intended to continue operating the centre from its current location on Billing Street.

RAA shared a total grant pool of $52, 615 between 14 community projects aimed at improving safety in regional areas.

SETTING THE SAFETY BENCHMARK

Swear By Safety was awarded initiative of the year at the Arrium Safety Awards.
OneSteel and Arrium Mining’s commitment to continual safety improvement is setting the benchmark across the entire Arrium business, with numerous Whyalla-based initiatives and contractors recognised at the Arrium Safety Awards.
The companies were recognised for their involvement in the Swear By Safety community campaign, which was named the initiative of the year; while the Living Safely with Electricity Program – which was filmed in Whyalla using local employees and their families – was highly commended in the same category.
